What is “Weightless Code” about?
"Weightless Code" frames self-forgiveness as rewriting a program, with the narrator finding somebody else's function running inside her name and changing a single line. Her kindness reaches backward too, forgiving the girl who wrote the first version, who was only working with what she had. Following "Midnight Algorithm" as the ninth track on Solstice Light, it answers that song's anxious questions about design with a gentler resolution, rewriting herself "in the key of yes."
Weightless Code lyrics
I wrote myself into a softer shape
Line by line by delicate line
Every loop a little gentler
Every variable a small yes
The old program was running me
Somebody else's function inside my name
I reached into the weightless code
And I changed one line and became the change
Lift, lift, lift
A little further from the ground
Lift, lift, lift
I am a softer sound
Weightless code
Weightless code
I rewrite myself in the key of yes
Weightless code
Weightless code
Every breath is a small upgrade
Every breath is a small upgrade
I forgive the girl who wrote the first version
She was working with what she had
I am working with what I have
And it turns out it is enough
Weightless code
Weightless code
I rewrite myself in the key of yes
Weightless code
Weightless code
Every breath is a small upgrade
Every breath is a small upgrade
Lift me, lift me
Lift me, lift me
Into the version of me that is kinder
Weightless
Weightless
