What is “Pulse in the Snow” about?
"Pulse in the Snow" follows a night walk through a sleeping town, streetlights making cathedrals of the air, as the narrator goes out to feel what is left of her. She does not want to be fixed, only held by the quiet, and at the edge of the pine trees she finds a small red light still burning under everything. Track twelve on Solstice Light and its clearest winter song, it ends on slow breathing and the words "Still here."
Pulse in the Snow lyrics
The town slept under a white weight
The streetlights made cathedrals of the air
I walked out to feel what was left of me
A pulse in the snow, a pulse in the snow
My breath went up like a small white prayer
I didn't want to be fixed
I wanted to be held
By the quiet that nothing owes me
There is a pulse in the snow
A pulse in the snow
A small red light still on
Somewhere under everything
There is a pulse in the snow
A pulse in the snow
Even the long winter
Has a heart beating slow
I stopped at the edge of the pine trees
I stood there long enough to disappear
And in the disappearing
Something in me came back
There is a pulse in the snow
A pulse in the snow
A small red light still on
Somewhere under everything
There is a pulse in the snow
A pulse in the snow
Even the long winter
Has a heart beating slow
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Still here
A pulse
A pulse
In the snow
