What is “Silver Teeth” about?
"Silver Teeth" is a barroom victory lap. The narrator struts in with dust on her boots, remembers being told to stay in her lane and keep quiet, and announces that the queen has arrived with her teeth, "gonna bite this town tonight." The second verse widens the frame to every woman before her who paid the toll. Arriving at track seven on Gasoline Hymn, it picks up the biting imagery of "Teeth & Honey" and turns it into swagger.
Silver Teeth lyrics
Strut into the room like I own the floor
Silver on my teeth, dust on my boots
You can keep your opinion, I got a door
You can keep your rules, I got my truth
They said pretty little thing, stay in your lane
They said small little voice, don't make a sound
I said baby I was born in a hurricane
Watch me put every last one of you down
Pour me another one
Make it a double
Tell the band to hit it twice as mean
Tell 'em the queen is in the building
And she brought her teeth
Silver teeth, silver teeth
Flashing in the barroom light
Silver teeth, silver teeth
Gonna bite this town tonight
You thought you had me figured, thought you had me quiet
Now you're gonna learn the hard way
Why they call me silver teeth
Silver teeth, silver teeth
Every woman before me paid the toll
Every woman before me hit the wall
I came to tear the billboard down
I came to tear the whole damn hall
Silver teeth, silver teeth
Flashing in the barroom light
Silver teeth, silver teeth
Gonna bite this town tonight
You thought you had me figured, thought you had me quiet
Now you're gonna learn the hard way
Why they call me silver teeth
Silver teeth, silver teeth
(Silver teeth)
(Silver teeth)
Watch me smile
