What is “Burnt Letter” about?
"Burnt Letter" begins with a discovery: an old love letter folded inside a guitar case, signed with a little heart, that the narrator had hidden away like wine she never drank. Setting it alight does not erase the past so much as summon it, leaving the taste of ash and the feeling of being "seventeen again tonight." Track thirteen on Gasoline Hymn, it echoes the letter-burning of "Paper Snake" but trades that song's anger for tenderness and confusion.
