Undertow

What is “Undertow” about?

"Undertow" asks to be pulled under, and the request stutters on its hook as the word itself breaks into pieces. Between those refrains comes the lyric's only other observation, "it's quiet in the deep," which turns the pull of the current from a threat into something closer to relief. Second to last on Tide Clock, it leads into the closing title track and takes the album's sea imagery down to its lowest, stillest point.
