What is “Butterfly” about?
"Butterfly" is a transformation song built on the journey from caterpillar to wings. The narrator starts out hiding in her shell, afraid of failing, then breaks out of the cocoon into colors she has never seen, and by the bridge declares that no cage can hold her. The second verse widens the picture to "five butterflies dancing everywhere." Tenth on GLITCH, it begins a pair of self-acceptance songs that continues with "Mirror Mirror."
