What is “Magnetic” about?
"Magnetic" is about quiet authority, following a narrator whose presence rearranges every room she enters and whose carefully chosen words become evidence of her power. Long underestimated, she decides to offer less apology and more authority, and the chorus turns that pull into the start of a revolution. The third track on Velvet, it completes the album's opening trio of self-assured anthems before "Fever" shifts the focus to romance, closing on the simple insistence "I was made for this."
Magnetic lyrics
Ooh, magnetic
Can't escape it
Every room I enter rearranges when I speak
Power in the quiet, power in the mystique
They don't understand the voltage running through my veins
Lightning doesn't beg for permission when it rains
Built an empire on the syllables I chose
Petals of a flower they forgot to close
Underestimated, now they can't look away
I've been charging up for this particular day
I'm magnetic, magnetic
Everything I am is pulling you in
Magnetic, magnetic
Watch the revolution I begin
Can you feel it on your skin?
I'm magnetic
Walked into the cipher and the frequency changed
Atoms rearranging, nothing stays the same
Words are ammunition dipped in elegance
Every single syllable is evidence
They were sleeping on the power I possess
Woke up and decided I should give 'em less
Less apology and more authority
Living proof that energy is currency
I'm magnetic, magnetic
Everything I am is pulling you in
Magnetic, magnetic
Watch the revolution I begin
Can you feel it on your skin?
I'm magnetic
North to south, you can't resist
Every molecule insists
I was made for this, I was made for this
Ooh
I'm magnetic, magnetic
Everything I am is pulling you in
Magnetic, magnetic
Watch the revolution I begin
Can you feel it on your skin?
I'm magnetic
Magnetic, ooh
You can't resist
Magnetic
